Liturgical Ministry

Liturgical Ministry

St. James offers a variety of ways to get involved in in our call to serve. Below, you will find all sorts of opportunities within and around the parish community. Contact the parish office for more information on how to become involved.

Greeting & Ushering

Ushers are the oldest lay ministry in the Catholic Church, serving as ministers who welcome parishioners, assist with seating, offerings, and facilitate the smooth flow of liturgical celebrations.

Audio Visual Assistance (A/V)

Audio/Visual Ministry of St. James provides the congregation the ability to fully participate in the Liturgy and other prayerful celebrations, by assisting with sound & slide presntation.  No experience necessary, all training is provided.

Altar Serving

All children fourth grade and higher are invited to join this important ministry.  An altar server is someone who helps the priest during Mass by performing various tasks, to include, carrying the cross, preparing the altar, and other small tasks to assist in the celebration.

Lectoring

Lectoring is a ministry in which a layperson shares the Word of God with the community during the liturgy, helping the assembly hear and receive Scripture through prayerful preparation and a calm, clear proclamation.

Eucharistic Ministry

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, often called Eucharistic Ministers, serve an important role in the Catholic Church by helping distribute Holy Communion during Mass and bringing it to those who cannot be present.

Music Ministry (Choir)

As the old saying goes, when you sing you pray twice. The most important word in that sentence is “pray.” Each song in a Mass is a prayer, it is another medium by which we can pray, give reverence and connect to God. Being at Mass is an act of participation, saying the prayers and singing (or praying) the music in a liturgy helps each of us to connect more with the Lord.

Music ministry’s role is simply to be facilitators of that connection. We guide and encourage the singing of prayer. We embrace those moments when a song says everything that someone is feeling in that moment. That connection is tangible and moving. The blessings bestowed in those moments are why we do what we do.
